README -- Describes contents of HEMCO/NEI2005/v2014-09/ 11 Feb 2015 GEOS-Chem Support Team geos-chem-support@g.harvard.edu Overview: =============================================================================== See this wiki page for the latest information about the NEI2005 emissions http://wiki.geos-chem.org/EPA/NEI05_North_American_emissions Files: =============================================================================== NEI2005.geos.1x1.nc -- Contains NEI2005 emissions for CO, NH3, NO, SO2, SO4, NIT, OCPI, BCPI, PRPE, C3H8, ALK4, C2H6, ACET, MEK, ALD2, and CH2O. This file was created by converting the original bpch file to netCDF. Resolution : GEOS-Chem 1x1 grid (360 x 181 boxes) Vertical levels : 5 (same as original NEI2005 data) Timestamps : 2005-01-01 Compression : Level 1 (e.g. nccopy -d1) ####################################################################### ##### NOTE: The netCDF file attribute 'lev:positive = "up"' was ##### ##### added to this file to allow GCHP to eventually read it. ##### ##### -- Bob Yantosca (27 Feb 2017) ##### ####################################################################### NEI2005.geos.1x1.1L.nc -- Contains the same data as in NEI2005.geos.1x1.nc, but the vertical levels have all been summed together. This makes it easier to add this inventory without having to worry about the vertical structure. Resolution : GEOS-Chem 1x1 grid (360 x 181 boxes) Timestamps : 2005-01-01 Compression : Level 1 (e.g. nccopy -d1) NOTE: For more information about NEI2005 scale factors, see the separate README file in the scaling/ directory. ############################################################################### #### ORIGINAL README FOLLOWS HERE #### ############################################################################### Bug fix for low VOC emissions in NEI 2005 =============================================================================== Dylan Millet (dbm@umn.edu) wrote: I think there may be some issue with the NEI05 anthropogenic hydrocarbon emissions as implemented currently. I did some comparisons with the raw input files, and the VOC emissions for NEI2005 were up to 10-20x lower depending on compound. So I did a model run, saving out the anthro emissions, and checked again to see if I wasn't doing something silly or missing some on-the-fly adjustment. In particular the ALK4, C3H8, C2H6, and PRPE emissions seem too different. The CO seems ok (lower for NEI99 b/c of the ICARTT scaling). I looked at this b/c I'm dealing with adjusted NEI2005 emissions from a different source for some sensitivity runs, and wanted to check against the GC implementation. The fluxes I get for the other data source are generally fairly similar to the NEI99 values. Aaron van Donkelaar (kelaar@dal.ca) wrote: The first file (corresponding to GEOS5 at 1x1) is complete. This bug also affected primary aerosol emissions. To give you an idea of the i mpact, previous NEI2005 emissions for December 2005 outputted to the log file as: ============================================================================ N. E. Four (4) related masks have been created by Philippe Le Sager. Code by Donkelaar and Le Sager to read and process the data is available in GEO-Chem v8-02-04.
