README -- Describes contents of HEMCO/TOMS_SBUV/v2016-11 directory 06 Jun 2019 GEOS-Chem Support Team geos-chem-support@g.harvard.edu Overview: =============================================================================== This directory contains the merged TOMS/SBUV overhead ozone column data, which is required by certain GEOS-Chem full-chemistry simulations done. It contains the same data as stored in v2016-11 but with minor modification to the time dimension unit string for compatibility with GEOS-Chem 12.5.0, specifically MAPL in GCHP. Note that the v2016-11 data files also contain the same data in the ../v2015-03 folder, but were reprocessed by Barron Henderson to fix a strange cycle OH output for GEOS-Chem simulations using GEOS-5 meteorology. The shell scripts used for that update are contained in that folder. You can find more information about this issue here: http://wiki.geos-chem.org/FAST-JX_v7.0_photolysis_mechanism#Fix_for_TOMS_to_address_strange_cycle_in_OH_output Files: =============================================================================== TOMS_O3col_*.a.geos.1x1.nc -- Binary punch (bpch) files containing 12 months of TOMS/SBUV data on the GEOS-Chem 1x1 grid, for years 1971 to 2010. Resolution : GEOS-Chem 1 x 1 grid (360 x 180 boxes) Units : dobsons (O3 columns); dobsons/day (tendencies) Timestamps : Monthly, 1971/01 thru 2010/12 Compression : Level 5 (e.g. nccopy -d5) Modifications to the HEMCO_Config.rc file: =============================================================================== Replace the existing TOMS_SBUV_O3 section of your HEMCO_Config.rc file with the text below: (((+TOMS_SBUV_O3+ * TOMS_O3_COL $ROOT/TOMS_SBUV/v2016-11/TOMS_O3col_$YYYY.a.geos.1x1.nc TOMS 1971-2010/1-12/1/0 C xy dobsons * - 1 1 * TOMS1_O3_COL - TOMS1 - - - dobsons/day * - 1 1 * TOMS2_O3_COL - TOMS2 - - - dobsons/day * - 1 1 * DTOMS1_O3_COL - DTOMS1 - - - dobsons/day * - 1 1 * DTOMS2_O3_COL - DTOMS2 - - - dobsons/day * - 1 1 )))+TOMS_SBUV_O3+ Modifications to the HEMCO_Config.rc file: =============================================================================== For more information about the original data, please see the README file in the ../v2015-03 folder.
