README -- methane files for GEOS-CHEM in CH4_201203 subdirectory GEOS-Chem Support Team geos-chem-support@g.harvard.edu 12 March 2012 Files stored in /as/group/geos/data/GEOS_2x2.5/CH4_201203: (1 ) resident.2x25.2004.bpch : Methane emission from biofuel burning (2 ) gmi.ch4loss.geos5_47L.2x25.bpch : CH4 loss frequencies. These values constitute a linearized stratospheric CH4 chemistry scheme. Loss freq. from 4x5 degree output from the GMI model. Values are for "generic" year 1985. Units are [1/s]. (Courtesy of Lee Murray) Files stored in /as/group/geos/data/GEOS_2x2.5/CH4_201203/wetlands: (1 ) Carbon_litter.2x25.bpch : Carbon emission from litter (2 ) Carbon_soil.2x25.bpch : Carbon emission from soil (3 ) TSKIN.geos5.2x25.YYYY.bpch : Monthly and annual mean skin temp for GEOS-5 for the year YYYY (4 ) Wetfrac.2x25.bpch : Wet fraction in each grid cell Files stored in /as/group/geos/data/GEOS_2x2.5/CH4_201203/GWETTOP: (1 ) GWETTOP.geos5.2x25.YYYY.bpch : Monthly and annual mean soil wetness for GEOS-5 for the year YYYY The program used to create TSKIN and GWETTOP is /home/kjw/emissions/wetlands/IDL/annual_met.pro Carbon_litter, Carbon_soil, and Wet_frac were sent to me by Jerome Drevet. I did not receive the program that created them Wet_frac follows a wetlands map created by Jed Kaplan. The map is described by Bergamaschi et. al. 2007 Carbon_liter and Carbon_soil are output from a 20th century run of the Lund-Potsdam-Jena Dynamic Global Vegetation Model. They were created by Jed Kaplan and sent to me by Jerome Drevet Emissions were collated by Kevin Wecht (kjw@seas.harvard.edu). Data are stored in binary punch file format and have units [molec CH4/cm2/s].
