README -- Contents of dust_200203/ Bob Yantosca bmy@io.harvard.edu 09 Jan 2004 Files: ------ dust.geos1.2x25 : Mineral dust concentrations [kg/m3] at 7 wavelength bins for the GEOS-1 2 x 2.5 grid. dust.geos3.2x25 : Mineral dust concentrations [kg/m3] at 7 wavelength bins for the GEOS-3 2 x 2.5 grid. dust.geos4.2x25 : Mineral dust concentrations [kg/m3] at 7 wavelength bins for the GEOS-4 2 x 2.5 grid. dust.geoss.2x25.1996 : Mineral dust concentrations [kg/m3] at 7 wavelength dust.geoss.2x25.1997 : bins for the GEOS-STRAT 2 x 2.5 grid, for specific years 1996, 1997. All files are in binary punch format. Source: ------- Paul Ginoux produced mineral dust concentrations using the GSFC/GOCART model for the GEOS-1 2 x 2.5 grid (1990) and for the GEOS-STRAT 2 x 2.5 grid (1996, 1997). These files are stored on tape since they are quite huge. Please contact Randall Martin (rvm@io.harvard.edu) for more information. Paul Ginoux (ginoux@rondo.gsfc.nasa.gov) probably also has them archived on the Unitree mass storage system at GSFC. The GEOS-1 and GEOS-STRAT 2 x 2.5 dust fields were converted into binary punch file format by the IDL code: ~bmy/IDL/regrid/regridh_dust.pro (NOTE: This option is no longer valid) The GEOS-STRAT 2 x 2.5 dust fields for 1996 were then regridded vertically to the GEOS-3 and GEOS-4 grids 2 x 2.5 grid by the code: ~bmy/IDL/regrid/regridv_dust.pro The GEOS-1, GEOS-STRAT, GEOS-3 and GEOS-4 files at 2 x 2.5 vertical resolution were then regridded to 4 x 5 resolution by the IDL code: ~bmy/IDL/regrid/regridh_dust.pro Notes: ------ (1) dust.geos*.2x25* are read into GEOS-CHEM by routine "rdust.f". (2) The data contained in "dust.geos*.2x25*" is used to compute mineral dust optical depths for the FAST-J photolysis code. It is also used in the SMVGEAR chemistry mechanism to facilitate heterogeneous chemistry.
