READE -- Describes contents of GFED3_201203 13 March 2012 GEOS-Chem Support Team geos-chem-support@g.harvard.edu Files and Directories: =============================================================================== YYYY/3hourly/GFED3_FR_3HR_YYYYMMDDHH -- 3-hourly fire emission fractions on the native GFED3 0.5x0.5 grid. 3-hourly factors are available for 2003 thru 2010 YYYY/Daily/GFED3_FR_DAY_YYYYMMDD -- Daily fire emission fractions on the native GFED3 0.5x0.5 grid. Daily factors are available for 2003 thru 2010 YYYY/Monthly/GFED3_DM_AGW_YYYYMM -- Files containing GFED3 monthly dry GFED3_DM_DEF_YYYYMM matter (DM) emissions on the native GFED3_DM_FOR_YYYYMM GFED3 0.5x0.5 grid. Units are g/m2. GFED3_DM_PET_YYYYMM GFED3_DM_SAV_YYYYMM Monthly emissions are available for GFED3_DM_TOT_YYYYMM 1997 thru 2010 GFED3_DM_WDL_YYYYMM GFED3_emission_factors.txt -- Text file containing the GFED3 emission factors for each species as a function of vegetation type. Includes emission factors for gas-phase species (NOx, CO, ALK4, ACET, MEK, ALD2, PRPE, C3H8, CH2O, C2H6), aerosol species (SO2, NH3, BC, OC), CO2, and CH4. GFED3_humtropmap -- GFED3 humid tropical forest map (bpch format). This is used to assign emission factors for 'deforestation.' 'Deforestation' occur outside of humid tropical forest is assigned a 'woodlands' emission factor. Values are: 1 = humid tropical forest 0 = other NOTE: GEOS-Chem reads monthly emissions of DM are read from disk, multiplies by daily and 3hourly fractions (if necessary), and then multiplies by the appropriate emission factors to produce biomass burning emissions on the GFED3 0.5x0.5 degree grid The emissions are then regridded to the current GEOS-Chem or GCAP grid (1x1, 2x25, or 4x5) by adapting the MAP_A2A regriddng package References: =============================================================================== (1 ) Original GFED3 database from Guido van der Werf http://www.falw.vu/~gwerf/GFED/GFED3/emissions/ (2 ) Giglio, L., Randerson, J.
