README -- Describes contents of HEMCO/FINN/v2015-02 18 Feb 2015 GEOS-Chem Support Team geos-chem-support@g.harvard.edu Overview: =============================================================================== "The Fire INventory from NCAR version 1.0 (FINNv1) provides daily, 1-km resolution, global estimates of the trace gas and particle emissions from open burning of biomass, which includes wildfire, agricultural fires, and prescribed burning and does not include biofuel use and trash burning" (Wiedinmyer et al., 2011, citation below). At present, FINN is not included in the standard set of emissions inventories for GEOS-Chem. It is available for use as a research option. You may activate FINN over GFED3 by editing the HEMCO configuration file. Files: =============================================================================== NOTE: The FINN inventory uses the following vegetation type indices: 1 SavannaGrasslands 2 WoodySavannah 3 TropicalForest 4 TemperateForest 5 Boreal 9 Crops FINN_EFratios_CO2.csv -- Text file containing FINN emission factor ratios (mole CO2/mole X), for each of the vegetation types listed above. FINN_VOC_speciation.csv -- Text file containing speciation (mole X / kg NMOC) for VOC species, for each of the the vegetation types listed above The VOC speciation factors in this file come from Christine Wiedinmyer. She calculated these factors specifically using the GEOS-Chem speciation. Therefore, these efactors will differ from those published in the FINN reference paper (Wiedinmyer et al 2011). This file has been converted to the inlined Fortran include file HEMCO/Extensions/hcox_finn_include.H, which is what the FINN HEMCO extension will use. FINN_VOC_speciation_csv.orig -- Text file containing speciation (mole X / kg NMOC) for VOC species, for each of the the vegetation types listed above. This file contains the original VOC speciation from Wiedinmyer et al 2011. We just preserve this for reference, as Christine Wiedinmyer has prepared a custom speciation for GEOS-Chem.
