README -- describes updated CLM4 Plant Functional Type file 11 Mar 2019 Dylan Millet (dbm@umn.edu) Jenny Fisher (jennyf@uow.edu.au) and the GEOS-Chem Support Team (geos-chem-support@g.harvard.edu) Overview: =============================================================================== This directory contains an updated CLM4 Plant Functional Type file for use in running MEGANv2.1 as implemented in GEOS-Chem. Jenny Fisher wrote: Dylan Millet mentioned the updated plant functional type file and higher resolution and suggested this get made part of the standard code. In terms of implementation, this file would replace the current file: HEMCO/MEGAN/v2017-07/CLM4_PFT.geos.025x03125.nc (with appropriate fixes to the HEMCO_Config.rc paths). Reference: ---------- K.W. We have regridded here to the GEOS-Chem resolution. Bob Yantosca wrote on 3/11/19: The original file we received was not compatible with GCHP, due to what I believe was an error in the time:units global attribute. (was "hours since 1985-01-01 00:00:0" but should ideally have been "hours since 1985-01-01 00:00:00 UTC"). I have used the NCO operators to edit the attribute string and have confirmed that GCHP can read this in. The original file is preserved in this folder as CLM4_PFT.geos.025x03125.v201805.orig.nc. How the netCDF files wwere created: =============================================================================== The above file was created as follows: 1) Download the original 0.3125 x 0.234375 file from: http://www.cesm.ucar.edu/models/cesm1.2/clm/ 2) Convert to an IDL .sav file using: map_pfts_hires.pro (IDL script) 3) Convert the IDL .sav file to a netcdf file using: CLM4_to_netcdf.pro (IDL script) 4) Chunk and deflate the netcdf file using NCO commands: nccopy -c lon/1152,lat/721,time/1 -d1 CLM4_PFT.geos.025x03125.v201805.nc tmp.nc mv tmp.nc CLM4_PFT.geos.025x03125.v201805.nc
